Are movies too long these days?

I'll see your Bad Boys 2, and raise you a three hour Spider-Man 3. I mean, really? A comic book action film at three hours? Get an editor already.

There were too many plot stranRAB in Spidey 3 but there was an attempt at least to link them together.

Bad Boys 2 on the other hand was 2 hours plus of car chases & "comic relief" from Martin Lawrence.

It would have been too long at half the runtime.

Its all on the content if a film is good enough and keeps you gripped i think 3 hrs is fine !

I heard before that directors are making longer films, as to try and boost chances of an Oscar, something to do with epic length films do well.

Ben Hur (on five on Monday) is apparently 4 hrs. How much of that will be aRAB? 45mins?

I want 90 minutes. 100 max. Most films seem to tack on another half hour of story that they really needn't.

I agree - the 3rd Matrix film was spoiled for me with an overlong car chase, that would've cut about 25 minutes from the film if it had been cut to a reasonable length. Same with Harry Potter and the interminable quidditch game in the (I think?) first film.

Indeed! I would have probably continued working at a cinema part-time if I had been given the opportunity to be an ice-cream boy and shout "albatross, albatross!"

Sad I know, but you had to find something amusing working for a cinema.

Aye! The cinema I worked for regularly showed what I would term Bollywood films - they were always well attended. The screens were always immaculate as well after the film had ended.

If the quality of the writing is good enough, it should't matter how long a film is.
