Are jeeps/Chryslers really as unreliable as people say?

I've heard bad things about them.

Hasen't Chrysler improved reliability-wise any in recent years?

I really want to buy an American vehicle....thing is that Ford or GM don't appeal to me at all. I love Chrysler/jeep/Dodge styling.
 
I LOVE my 97 TJ Wrangler. The engine in this thing is indestructible I've put diesel in by accident once and it still runs like new. The acronym Just Empty Ever Pocket for JEEP is for the jeeps broken on a trail. Stuff breaks and costs money.
 
Well although it doesn't appeal to you, GM has the highest reliability rating of the big three. Chrysler has been known to make lower quality vehicles, although they do look and feel nice. I would say that their build quality has improved over the years, but it doesn't put them within 100 miles of the reliability ratings of GM and Ford.
