...televison, etc? Brokeback mountain was a controversial film. One of the reasons it was so confronting was because of the characters persona's, they were not typical of the gay personality the media associates with homosexuals. For example presenters on television for entertainment news, such as Perez Hilton, eye for a straight guy, etc.

How accurate are these portrayals of homesexual male personalities? Why has this come to be the typcial gay guy? Is it a negative representation or truthful?

Not to worry, television will provide a stereotype to let you know for sure.
The only people on television seem to be flamboyantly gay and clearly so. There are very few of the rugged masculine ones (the type I look for).
Further, a good ideal of the feminine ones are portrayed as completely unrelatable to most people, which just alienates them from us a little more.

all are accurate because we are just as varied and different as heterosexuals.

personally, the only real thing i have seen in a movie that was offensive was in Hustler. but, I think we ALL were offended at that.

it's "typical" because it's the type of man you can just point out in a crowd. just like when you see a disaster happen, and they pick the most redneck inbreed person to be a "witness" to it all.....

idk, my head hurts from lack of sleep and i probably am not making any sense.
