Are Harley Davidson motorcycles reliable?

I've been looking into buying a Harley Davidson motorcyle, especially an 2009 Iron 883, but heard from my friends that they are unreliable bikes that break down in a few years. Would like to hear from some HD owners and theire expieriences please. F.Y.I.: I'm a first-timer with this motorcycle thing.
 
I agree with Polarbear - I have a 2009 xl 883 low with 5000 miles on it. If changing the oil + filter - checking the belt tension and all the other regular stuff is '' high maintanance '' then the guy that said it must ride a piece of crap.Any bike is only as good as it's owner's care.
