Are games bought from Hong Kong just as good the one they manufacture here?

I bought a Pokemon Platinum game for my DS Lite. It was from China and in the English language. However when I exit out of Wi-Fi setting from the game's menu, a white screen appears up. On videos I searched up on Youtube, the white screen appears for about a second and then goes back to the game menu. My DS Lite just stays on the white screen FOREVER! Any advice?
