Are fireworks angled to burst towards the crowd/a certain direction?

I noticed while watching new year's fireworks that the majority of the fireworks seemed to look like they were exploding in our direction. It seemed as though if we were standing on the opposite side, it would look like the fireworks were exploding away from us.

I watched carefully and noticed that the majority of the firework shells slowed down or started descending before bursting. I deduced that the fireworks were probably shot up at a slight angle (towards the crowd, maybe a 70 degree angle lets say) and that the shell would reach the apex of trajectory, and then angle downward and toward us as it descended just a tad, and the head of the shell (which is now pointing towards the crown) would explode causing most of the sparks to fly in our direction. I do realize that there are some fireworks that explode into a giant sphere, but I did notice many that looked single directional.

Can anyone confirm my theory or is it simply just an optical illusion as my friends suggested.
