Ever since The Incredibles, computer animators have finally learned that cg characters dont have to obey the strict laws of symmetry and u can squash and stretch the characters and objects. The more prominent examples are Horton hears a Who, Tangled, HTTYD and the upcoming Rio.
Its ironic because, we have been demanding handdrawn films to be made again, but w/ new advanced technology, animators can learn from the old rules and apply them to pixels, thus making the film look and feel like an old 2d cartoon. Now dont get me wrong, i want 2d films like everyone else, but its real pleasing to see cgi studios move forward and by the end of this decade, we maybe get the best looking cartoons like none has ever seen.
