Two things:

First, I absolutely stand by the analogy. This is a serious question, albeit asked in a provocative way.

I am not engaging in name calling. The phrasing of the question was a calculated risk. Some would see it as an effort to dehumanize a group of people, likening them to insects who need to be eradicated. That's a fair criticism. Those of you who responded along those lines are justified in doing so. But I want you to ask yourself something: if I had used neutral language, how many of you would have bothered to respond?

As yet, only one person has actually dealt with the substance of the question.

Actually, it's organized religion destroying our society.
People think the Holocaust was the biggest slaughter in human history... WRONG.
The Vatican and Knights Templar led the crusades, and MURDERED some 12 million "Infidels" "in the name of god"
Organized religion has taught people that God put the Earth here for us humans, and harvesting it dry is perfectly fine.
Disgusting.
Organized religion is the scourge of this earth.
You're only doing God a disservice and discredit by letting yourself be lured into it.
 
nobody is a termite eating away at civilization my friend.calm down and put your cynical side to rest.no one should be bound by religion.everyone should come together as humans for humanity and the Earth, not religion, constantly segregating one another because of your beliefs is stupid, everyone whether yellow, white, black, orange, male or female, gay or straight, we all bleed and breathe the same, we are all human.we only have one Earth so we need to stop destroying it before we and it is gone.religion is just another group some people just love to use to separate others to feel better and more moral and right.we need to live in peace and harmony and stop with all this hate and sadness.live like it is your last day of life.live and love your special someone and your friends and family like you are going to die tomorrow.love brings us all together.FOR THE LOVE OF HUMANITY AND MOTHER EARTH...LOVE AND LIVE IN PEACE
 
All great civilizations were built on a belief of something. Atheists believe that we simply exist and exist to enhance our own existence. Modern culture no longer relies on religion to keep them protected. A knife will still puncture the flesh, no matter what their beliefs. However, I suppose that any thoughts of not having to "behave" in case its eternal damnation can make them evil, but then look at suicide bombers.
