CZ 52 Pistol
Star BM Spanish Pistol
Romanian Tokarev-Tula 33
Polish Makarov Pistol P64
hi point 9mm or 45 carbine

any suggestions? my dad and i are looking for some guns before Obama gets in.. please leave remarks on availability of ammo as well

-I have doubts about CZ-52s. The grips are awkward and there is no slide release. It's more advanced than the Tokarev but doesn't have as much lore and history behind it.
-You'll have trouble finding mags for the STAR pistol because it's not all that popular. Not too bad of a choice.
-Good choice. The Romanian ones aren't the best but they're not bad either. The 7.62x25mm bottle-necked round (same as CZ-52) has a high muzzle velocity and penetration so it has interesting ballistic performance characteristics. Though the same can be said of the CZ-52. It also has a little more history behind it.
-This one has an ammo supply issue. It fires the 9x18mm bullet which isn't compatible with the 9x19mm you see everywhere. The ammo itself is not all that expensive but tough to come by. It's magazine capacity is also 2 rounds smaller than other Makarovs. But it's more concealable.
-Hi-Point carbines are a really good choice. Cheap, accurate, reliable although somewhat ugly. No way to go wrong with one.

Some of them are okay, I don't think I would worry about being in a hurry. A lot of people will probably be selling them off soon enough for money to pay for groceries and rent.

DJ knows what he is talking about take his advice.

Mine is to spring for a Walther PPK stainless in .32 acp with about 5 extra mags with finger extensions.
Or get a Ruger Mk III .22-45 with three more mags than comes with a new one. Cheapest to shoot and once you get good with it you can get any 1911 in .45 acp copy and shoot it just as good as you can the Ruger.

There's not a single one on that list that I would want to own.

Here's a better list...

Browning Hi Power 9mm
Colt Series 70 1911 45 ACP
Smith & Wesson model 66, 357 magnum
Ruger Mark III 22 LR
Colt AR-15A1 HBAR 223

These are all low end guns of very low to extremely low quality.

If you are looking from something to put away from a rainy day - you need to be setting your sights a bit higher. It's the AR-15's, Colts, Glocks and Springfield Armory pistols and rifles that will be worth big $$ in the event of a future ban.

Most of the quality rifles and pistols have been bought up in the last 18 months. Smart people started doing this in 2006 and 2007 so you and your dad are way behind the curve.

However, all is not lost. There is no ban. Just get your name on a waiting list for a decent firearm and buy it. DO NOT settle for the junk sitting in display counters now.

Especially the HI POINT. These are garbage. For the guy who wants to protect his family and only has $150 dollars they make sense. As an investment against a future ban - it could take 30 years for a HI POINT to double in price - where an AR-15 would double in a year. Heck - there isn't a ban yet and AR's have already doubled - if you can find one.

Choose wisely.
