I had a brief stint in college as an architect major. After I decided it wasn't for me anymore I had a talk with one of my professors. I told him my major concerns and that the risks weren't worth the reward with finishing the degree. One topic we discussed was architecture in relation to the economy. I was worried with a failing economy, increasing gas prices, and the threat of out sourcing would limit the field. He told me back in the 70s and80s architects faced the same crisis and the majority of them, he said half, were forced out of the field due to financial problems. This was about 3 years ago and I wanted to see if anyone knew more about what architecture is facing now and what will happen to young architects. Any insight on architecture being effected by the slumping housing market, failing stock market, loans given out by the banks, and future projects with increase in fuels will be much appreciated.
