Apps2SD in 2.2 vs. Cyanogen

So I have read Google is finally going to release Android 2.2 and it will support Apps2SD for app storage. GREAT! Does anyone know how it will compare to CM's new version of moving apps from phone memory to SD?

I updated to CM5.0.6 which is supposed to have the ability to move the apps but it doesn't show up on my phone, an issue for a different thread.

When you go to settings>applications>manage applications you should see an option that shows if the app is in internal storage or sd. Which ever it is you can move to the other.

Well, do you have apps2sd configured? You cannot move your applications to the SD card without actually enabling apps2sd first.

I think the issue is with the user, as nobody else is having this error with the ROM The kernel does not have anything to do with apps2sd.

Make sure you know how to use apps2sd and you have your SD card configured properly.

I'm running this kernel with the Desire Camera and it shows up on mine.

I was also running persiansown kernel and it showed up.
As bmclure said you have to have a parttioned card and have apps2sd checked.

Being the user in question I would agree with you!

The Apps2SD option in my settings is grayed out so I guess a little more home work on its use in my future.

Thanks for the brutal honesty, it is needed sometimes.

Oh yeah, I guess I was really asking if the Google Apps2SD is going to be a little more noob friendly. Will I be able to transfer existing apps as well as new downloads?

Nobody know for sure, there's going to have to be something to lock the apps down to the sd card because as it stands now with apps2sd you can buy the app take it off of your sd card and return it the same day. Doing that you wouldn't get any updates to your app and it is stealing. This is the reason I though we would never see apps2sd on a stock phone.

Well, wherever you read that is incorrect.

The enhancement request tracking page for this is here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1151

If you refer to comment 533 you will see a Google employee set the status to "Future Release". Then in comment 535 he said "I'm not permitted to disclose scheduling information - suffice to say it's coming soon".

Some people are assuming that "coming soon" means Android 2.2, however this is due for release imminently, and usually the code branches are locked down months in advance (so no new stuff is added, they just fix any issues they're having with that release).

Now, that doesn't mean to say it won't come with 2.2, but there is no evidence that I've seen anywhere that says it will. Unless someone else has seen something?

Glad I could help and I am glad that you took it the right way, I was not meaning to be a ****... I was just trying to be honest about what was going wrong!!

Totally awesome to see someone on a forum not take things as an offense and come back with an argument!!

Hope you get things working properly... just back up your SD card to your computer (easy, drag and drop files into folder) then boot into recovery and partition your SD card. I use a 512Mb ext2 partition for apps2sd. (no swap partition on my N1)

Yes, it's really that easy. Just right click on your desktop, select new, select folder. Mount you phone and drag everything from your phone to your desktops new folder. Unmount and go to recovery and partition your card. While in recovery make sure you go from ext. 2 to ext 4 partition. Mount your phone and put everything back on your sd card. Go to settings>applications and make sure apps2sd is checked, then go to manage applications and transfer all or the ones you want to your ext. partition.

Great! Now I have something to do on this lovely Friday night. I just told my wife I was disappointed that there were no new hacks for my phone. She will be thrilled I can ignore her for another night!

I am using latest Amon RA recovery and my options are "ext2 to ext3" or "ext3 to ext4". Which of those should I be using?

Slim chance you are around at 11am on Saturday Morning?

Just got back from the last soccer game of the season. Go to ext2 first and then go to ext3 then ext 4. Yoiu might can straight to ext4 but that's the way I was told to do it.

All Right! It took a while to copy everything back but I have Apps2SD. I am using the 4Gig card that shipped w/ the phone and according to the app "System" I only 6% available on my sd card. Geez that sounds low. I don't know what it was before but I am wondering if I need to do something else to move the apps to the correct partition... Or do I need to suck it up and get a bigger sd card? If I need the bigger card I am open to recomendations.

How big did you make your ext4? Should have been between 384 - 512. If that's what you set it at you must have quite a few apps. Here's what mine says with an 8gb card.

I guess it depends what partition is reporting 6% free. Where are you seeing 6%? It sounds to me more like it's the FAT32 partition (not used for apps) that has 6% free.
