Approximately which sized frame for a road bike?

I am 5'1", female.

I just need this for short trips (<20 miles), so I'm going to get one off of CL, but I need to know which sized frames I should be looking at.
I'm not retarded.

26 inches is what? 65 cm? 58 cm bikes are the industry standard for males, so they should fit like a 5'10" male.

Obviously it'll be much lower than that... please only answer if you have some information, thanks.
 
Industry standard? I guess I that makes me sub-standard at 54cm, but it vary's from one manufacturer to another. My Dad's Cannondale 54 is too big for me, The Specialized 54's are just right. Nobody can say what size you shold get. Go to a bike shop and get fitted, or if you are looking at a particular bike, make sure you can try different sizes. If the shop does not have multiple sizes to try, walk away.

I am 5' 8" and ride a 54 cm.

Remember: A good deal on a bike that does not fit is a bad deal, at any price.
