Hey, anyone know approximately how many words a publisher generally expects in a complete science-fiction novel manuscript?
I have one almost entirely completed, and I'm estimating it will be just under 57,000 words. (That's on a total word count, not based on # of characters divided by some number to get an approximate count of 5-letter "words.") I'm wondering if that's sufficient for my first book in a series, or if I should try to find some way to extend it further without screwing up the plot of the rest of the series.
If there's anyone with experience in publishing/has published writing, I'd greatly appreciate any answers!
