I am working as an apprentice at a reputable hairdressers, I work over 44 hours a week (spread over 5 days) and have been told I need to go to college on my day off, making a week a 6 day one, I am not paid for the time I am at college, this also bumps my working hours for the week near enough 50.
The fact that I get just a 1 day weekend and not paid for the time at college, doesn't seem right, I'm not sure if there is a law being broken here.
Also, I am 20 years of age, I started at my current job in April, after being in other salons for rougly 2 years previously, being over 19 and having completed my first year of my appreticeship I feel as if I am entitled to minimum from the time when I started, I thought maybe becasue I changed employer that I would have to work there for a year before I recieved minimum wage, but I ahve read on the Apprenticeship website (http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk) That this is not the case:
" If I change employers, do I have to restart my Apprenticeship?
No – You can continue on the same Apprenticeship programme. If you are aged 19 and over and change employers after you have completed your first year, you will also be able to receive the national minimum wage. "
