Apprenticeship after University?

I recently graduated university, though like most graduates I know, I'm having an extremely difficult time finding a decent job. My personal experience of university in general and having a degree is that it is a huge waste of time and money. You pay £3000+ a year to attend lectures a few times a week and pretty much be given a handout and told to teach yourselves. Aside from that, most graduate jobs seem to be catered to either business, finance or fashion graduates (I am none of the above). Experience seems to be worth more than a degree and a good grade, and all of the jobs that I have found interesting and felt that I would enjoy doing require NVQs, etc. Had my school taken the time to talk us through our options rather than pushing us all to stay on to do A Levels and apply to universities I am sure that I would have gone a different route. At the time, my whole class was led to believe that if you didn't go to university, you would end up in a dead-end job. I did and I am still in a dead-end job while classmates who went to college are earning a good wage in interesting jobs.

I have my eye on a couple of apprenticeships, but I want to know if it is a good idea to apply for one after going to university? In the course of my degree I covered some relevant topics, but I'm afraid of being overlooked due to being perceived as 'overqualified' (the dreaded conclusion for graduates who are trapped by the uselessness of a degree, unable to afford to undertake a Masters; you're either overqualified or underqualified).

Will I be accepted onto an apprenticeship with a degree?
The apprenticeships in question are as a nursery nurse. I decided towards the end of my degree that I would like to go into childhood education but I can't find any nearby schools with relevant universities recruiting for GTP (I am swimming in debt from uni and can't afford to move away) and lack contacts to be able to get into a school to observe for a week or two so I have the relevant experience to apply for a PGCE.
