I have a BS in our university's economics/math joint major (economics and 30 credits of math) and will have around a 3.25 GPA. I have no internship experience, because last Summer I was studying abroad, made contact with a volunteer organization there. This Summer, I have just completed 2 courses in math and am leaving to volunteer with the aforementioned organization abroad. I am going for 6 weeks. This Summer, due to taking my math classes, I could not have interned anyways, but if I had done things differently, I would tried to intern last Summer.
But that is besides the point. In my interview for my first job, they will frown upon the fact that I have had no experience. What can I do?
1.) Should I tell them about my volunteer experience and, if I take on some kind of leadership role during the volunteering (it has to do with community organizing and local program development for youth), should I expand on that?
2.) Our university has an independent-study opportunity for students to do during their semester. If I complete this study, for credit, under the supervision of a professor, could this research experience at least shore up my lack of an internship?
Any other tips? I am also fluent in another language, am apt with different statistical software, and have strong quantitative skills.
Thank you.
Why is it lazy to get a nearly double major with fairly good grades (and very solid in my major)? I do understand I should have done more, but that's why I am asking here. Anyways, thank you for reality check I guess, sir.
