apple mac on a budget. need help with a few possible purchases (maybe mac mini)?

i really want to go mac. I've had a few iphones now and im fed up with windows. just want a mac

was thinking of buying a second hand mac mini (the 1gb ram one). there going pretty cheap.

could anyone tell me if its worth buying? or are they actually a poor performing machine?

i wanted something to fully sync with my iphone but i want something that can cope with video editing to. maybe even 720p HD video

could anyone recommend me a screen? want something quite nice and HD but also on a budget

any advice tips or help would be cool
