*EDIT* yes, i know it's not s60 related, gimme a break it's still interesting to us smartphone owners.

"Sweet, glorious specs of the 11.6 millimeter device (that's frickin' thin, by the way) include a 3.5-inch wide touchscreen display with multi-touch support and a proximity sensor to turn off the sensor when it's close to your face, 2 megapixel cam, 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth with EDR, WiFi that automatically engages when in range, and quadband GSM radio with EDGE. Perhaps most amazingly, though, it somehow runs OS X with support for Widgets, Google Maps, and Safari, and iTunes (of course) with CoverFlow out of the gate. A partnership with Yahoo will allow all iPhone customers to hook up with free push IMAP email. In a twisted way, this is one rumor mill we're almost sad to see grind to a halt; after all, when is the next time we're going to have an opportunity to run this picture?"

I'm feeling very stupid. I just bought an e61, TWO days ago. The only thing I question about the Apple is text input, but I just saw a shot showing on screen full qwerty keypad. Now just waiting for apple store to come back up, looks like I might be reselling my e61 before I even get it in the mail.

We'll have to wait and see how that touch screen works. Nothing sucks worse than a bad touch screen. But jeeze, does that screen look gorgeous or what.

I'll never switch to Cingular, no matter how good this phone is... here's to hoping that Apple sells an unlocked one, but I doubt it the more I think about it.

If this phone is what the keynote makes it out to be, then Nokia better have a DAMNED good E90 coming out next month to compete... because no one else will even come close.

Job's is a bit of an idiot though:

""This is a breakthrough, an Internet communicator built right into a phone. We're very very happy with this.""

Yeah, because no one else has had the 'net on their phone before... Opera, are you reading this?

The only thing that makes me think they *might* sell an unlocked version is the fact it's quad band.

However, it also says it displays each individual voicemail left, which sounds like a carrier-specific feature. Unless they worked out a deal with cingular AND t-mobile, which is possible.

Doubtful though, in the eyes of a company like Apple, T-Mobile isn't a big enough player... now, overseas? My prediction is Vodafone, though I hope I'm wrong there too.

I can't imagine them not selling an unlocked version. I mean after all, how big is the world-wide GSM market? Do they really have the marketing channels to sell branded phones throughout Europe and Asia? Maybe they do, but unbranded seems like a good entry point.

As a FYI, Apple never really has treated the "Rest of the world" as anything but a second class citizen. Kinda like the "Rest of the world" treats the US. So don't be surprised if it's a Cingular only phone. It would be par for course. *Still crossing fingers hoping it's unbranded.*

I actually think that from a marketing standpoint, unfortunatly, it makes sense to sell it locked to carriers... because if Voda and Cingular, for example, know that they have an exclusive, they will market the **** out of it for Apple.
