Apple iPhone 4 vs. Samsung Galaxy-S

Hard to believe that the Galaxy S's superior CPU would lag more than, say, nexus one, which is very snappy and responsive. Especially seeing its benchmark scores are higher than froyo 2.2 on n1.

Actually, I think he has the right to say it. Apparently, a lot of others are experiencing the stalling/lagging issue with the Galaxy S. They pointed it to Samsung using the internal SD card instead of the internal NAND for their data which makes the phone lag. Why they did this is unknown but possibly a mistake on their part. The lagging only seems to happen when launching apps and going back to the home screen. Otherwise, it is perfect when playing games, media, watching movies, etc. Paul at Modaco made a fix specifically for it but you need to be rooted to do it:

Another fix was to replace the default TouchWiz 3.0 with another home launcher such as Launcher Pro which I am currently using on my phone and I think is miles beyond better than TouchWiz 3.0 (and probably the first thing I would remove once I get the a Galaxy S or Captivate). Additionally, the new firmware updates that just came out a few days ago supposedly took care of the stalling issues as well. Also, Paul has prebaked custom roms that you can use that have major modifications that speed up the phone even more as seen below:

LG makes Apple's displays. The technology is LG's. I think its no different from what LG uses now on their other phones, except the higher resolution.

Those are 3D scores. That's good only for games, not the general workings of the OS and apps.

Froyo on Nexus One is overall, much faster than the Galaxy S on Android 2.1. Apps just fly. The browser just flies. The notable bugs on the Nexus One are gone, no more touch bug, and the reception is stronger. Rendering the browser under wifi just snaps. It feels like a weight lifted from the phone.

There is a lag and stall problem which I encounter occasionally. I suspect might be the slow NAND memory used for rhe internal SD card for caching since all the apps that occasionally stutter have access to the SD card for caching. I deal with this by occasionally doing an app flush which I often do with any multitasking phone OS --- close all the apps. Advanced Task Manager can close all the apps displayed in the menu with one stroke. And while its geeky, I also go to the Running Services and close the Services I don't use. I also reduced on the screen clutter, removing widgets I don't use. Samsung needs a fix where they could cache to the external SD card.

I use the fastest SD memory on both my Nexus One and Desire, which is one reason they're smooth and caches fast.

Yeah, a lot of people don't realize there's a difference between microSD cards. A class 6 will make a BIG speed difference if there's any app caching going on.

I figured out a lag causer on the Samsung Galaxy S. Its some DRM service which you can find under Running Services. Its not on other Android phones I checked so its a non essential service. After killing this service, apps accessing the SD card for cache, even the internal one, started running a lot faster and smoother.

i saw somewhere that the retina display was better than the SAMOLED
and plus SAMOLED would be really bad in sun light
i like the android OS
but i love apple's app store more
