Apple is cutting prices on current iPad models to make room for the imminent arrival of the new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, and this time it means it. After having authorized retailers to cut prices on some iPad configurations weeks ago to blow out inventory ahead of an expected launch, that launch never came and Apple was forced to resupply those vendors with additional stock. But now Apple is slashing the prices of refurbished iPad 4 and iPad mini 2 models in its own online store, in a sign that the next generation iPads are indeed on their way imminently.
For the first time, Apple is offering the iPad mini refurbished for $279 instead of the usual $299 refurbished, while the iPad 4 is selling refurbished for $419. These price levels are usually associated with refurbs of previous generation models, which it’s safe to assume these will become soon, with the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 taking their place.
Apple is expected to debut an iPad 5 that’s thinner and lighter than the iPad 4, while the iPad mini 2 may offer the same retina display screen technology as the full size iPad.
