Apple Att Cingular Questions.?

AT&T stands for American Telegraph & Telephone. They added the "telephone" part when it was invented so that's a crazy long time, so even though since Cingular bought AT&T, they thought AT&T was a stronger name since it's been around longer.

Hello, i've only been following Apple and it's Att's exclusive partnership since September =\
anyway i was watching the old Keynote (2007)
they said they were going to partner with cingular, and then i thought att was the exclusive provider, i googled it, and it says cingular bought att, but why is the name att?
could anyone clear this up?X.X
