My bf and I were moving this mini-fridge that we're letting him use for college. We get it into the laundry room so we can clean it out (The laundry room floor is the only bit of uncarpeted space we have.) When we're done I look at my hand and it has this white sticky suff on it. (Kind of looked like Marshmallow Fluff.) I go to wash it off and it won't come off with soap or hot water or anything. So I get a scrubber and scrub for like 10 min. It finally came off my hands.

So I go downstairs to see what this stuff is and there's a glob of it on the top of the fridge. I come to find out that it's a 2 part apoxy that had leaked onto the fridge. Nothing will get it off. I used goof off, soap and a heavy duty scrubber, I used oops, vinigar. Nothing had worked. So now the mini-fridge we got from my JaJa has this white crud all over it. I hope he didn't want it back.

(Oh, and because my sister never cleaned out the fridge after she used it two years ago it was full of mold. Nice little surprise for me to clean up. :rolleyes: )
 
Well you probably wouldn't want to use nail polish remover because it has perfumes and other oils in it. You can buy acetone at any hardware store or Wal Mart though.

Not if you're careful. It should evaporate too fast to remove any lacquer though.
 
Fuck it! Buy a new freakin' fridge. You don't know what else your sister or whoever has done to it. Fridges are cheap nowadays. Not that I endorse consumerism or anything but yuck.
 
Eh, why buy new when slightly used will do?

Besides, I cleaned the whole thing out with vinigar and then I used soap and then I rinsed it with a rag and hot water. I'm pretty sure it's clean inside. I also put the drawers and shelves and everything else that comes off in the dishwasher to kill any other mold spores I may have missed.

Thanks for the advice Jung. I'm gadda try that. I don't think my nail polish remover will do too much harm with the perfumes. I can always wash that off later.
 
use bleach. not to get the crud on top off but the mold inside out. soap and water just dosent give me the warm fuzzy that a nice bleachy scent gives.
 
Ok, I did the acitone thing and it didn't get it off. So I said screw it cuz there's only a little bit on the top. I don't think at this point it's going to matter.

And I don't want my fridge smelling like bleach. If you use vinigar it kills the mold and the smell dissapates much faster. Plus, it's more natural, so I feel more comfortable using it where I'm going to be putting food. Thanks for all the advice though!
 
You don't have to worry about smells too much. Bleach is good to clean with. If you buy a box of Arm & Hammer (which everyone should have in their fridge) it will kill all odors; food, bleach, whatever.
 
How is vinegar more natural than bleach? Bleach is chlorine which is an element.

Vinegar is fermented juice or wine. Wine is fermented juice.

...... I don't get it. Vinegar kills mold by changing the PH balance but it dosent kill much else. Bleach kills bacteria by making a inhospitable enviornment. I would rather have something that smells like bleach and is clean than smells like vinegar and may kill me.
 
See if your, uhh, Jaja wanted it back. If they did, offer to buy them a new one when it's time to give it back. Now that that's out of the way, just take an ice scraper or old knife to it. It's college, do you really care about the paint that much?
