Apocolypto "inter-frame-dots"

Hello,

Did anyone else notice these -maybe it applies to other movies as well.

Basically a grid of dot's lasting less then a second, but not in a full square pattern.

I noticed them a few times through-out the movie.

Any idea what these might be, details?

Excellent movie by the way. Almost perfect, exceptional camera-work and editing.

Thanks in advance.

Yours kindly,

MN

Those dots are a anti-piracy measure. Each set of prints is given a unique pattern of dots so the studios can tell at which cinema/cinema chain the pirate copy was recorded.

ah. with the way advertising is penetrating movie making these days with product placements and whatnot, I wouldn't be surprised if they had put in inter-frame subliminal messaging. They probably will do this in the future if it hasn't been done already.

I saw this movie when I was in NYC in December and I have to say I was blown away by this movie. Whatever your feelings about Mel Gibson and his epsiode in 2006 I really think that everyone should go and see this amazing movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing this later in the week - although I can't help but feel the fact that Mel Gibson's name is almost as big as the film's title on the movie posters is doing this more harm than good.

Thanks PvG for the answer, but I found those dots too noticable -anyone else?

Histeria -But it has absolutely no star names in it and is subtitled -there's no chance it would have got to number 1 in the U.S. if it wasn't for/by him.

People don't realise the semi-concerted campaign against Gibson by people with agenda's other than the face-value who hijack every event.

Kind regarRAB,

MN

I suppose - but if Pan's Labyrinth didn't need it... I dunno, I'm just not convinced MG's name is much of a draw as a director - certainly not in the UK.

Thank goodness for that.
I went to see Night At The Museum recently and noticed the dots briefly on screen. I thought I was getting spots before the eyes.

Don't mistake these for dust/dirt on the reel, or the cigarette burn indicating a reel change.

As an anti-piracy measure, these are next to useless. Any release group that cams themselves are smart enough to remove the offending frames; besides 90% of releases nowadays are from the Russian scene. Good luck stopping piracy there.
