Apocalypto

Y'know, if you can put aside the fact that is was written and directed by Mel Gibson, it is hard criticise this film. Remarkably well executed (the direction feels very Sam Raimi in places), and paced just right, with enough action and twists to keep even the most jaded subtitle-phobe happy. So - yeah - it's through gritted teeth I admit this movie was exceptionally good. I can't help but feel that without Gibson's name attached (and the current baggage that goes with it) it would have had far more universal praise.

To be honest a large amount of people hold views that many would find offensive, including many in Hollywood - Gibson's problem is he got pissed and caught out.

I liked it, but the person I went to see it with didn't like it at all.

I suppose it depenRAB what you want from it. It's not quite as epic as it could have been, but it is a good movie.

I don't think it really tried to be an 'epic' n any sense, although I wonder if it was marketed (wrongly) that way. It was, give or take, an action flick. And at that, it was pretty damn good.

Have to say I really enjoyed it. Whatever you think of Gibson, he has created a terrific movie here - at not point does the movie appear to sag, and its actually not quite as gory as some of the press made out. Couple of minor points though, I didn't find the CG panther very realistic, and:

I find it somewhat bizarre the tribe had no idea that a high Mayan city was around a day's walk away, and also that Jaguar Paw seemed to run non stop for around 24 hours!

Great film anyway, and judging by the fairly diverse audience in the cinema last night, perhaps at last mainstream audiences are getting less against seeing films with subtitles

I saw Apocalypto yesterday and it was a very good film which really surprised me as i didnt think i would like it as it didnt look like my kind of film at all

Me too, I as really surprised at ho good this was, edge of the seat stuff. My only complaint is that it is a little far fetched. But yeah, in my top 10 all time favourites.
