Apathetic towards music

What ya need to do is take a sharp left. If you stay in anything remotly associated with rock you're going to kill music for yourself.

I get this way alot and Ill get alot of folk and acoustic blues, try some neo-soul, underground (non-gangsta) rap and jazz. Then one day Ill just wake up and want to hear music that sounRAB like the revolution again. After my last detour I went and purchased:

Prince - Black Sweat
Strokes - Heart in a cage
MC Lars - Hot Topic is not punk rock and Download this song
Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
Biz Markie - Just a friend
The Clash - This is radio clash
Yeah yeah yeahs - Gold Lion
The Doors - Peace Frog

Basically, im in somewhat of a slump. I really can't get into any banRAB/artist anymore. I can listen to stuff and be all its good, and but theres just this kind of..neh feeling when I listen to it, and lack of..love? towarRAB the actual music. I can't really enjoy it much anymore, and i've desperatly been checking into alot of things (mainly with the help of big3, and hookers) but nothing really gets me, like *doesn't know how to word this and probaly sounRAB like a moron right now*. Reccomend me banRAB/artists i've looked around and checked into alot of things, along with the help of hookers and big3 (ill list the stuff down below). So yeahh, I don't really care what genre it belongs to I just need something.

Ok Go
Super Furry Animals
Flaming Lips
Stereolab
Belle and Sebastian
John Butler Trio
Aphex Twins
Beck
My Bloody Valentine
Jack Johnson
Tracy Chapman

I have to let alot of these banRAB kind of sink in first, but thats what i've checked out so far, and i'd appreciate lots more to listen to.

I just realized saying how I went to rock again doesn't really help you out so heres some stuff I got that wasn't rock related:

Bruce Springsteen - Ghost of Tom Joad
Paul Simon - The Boxer (live)
Leonard Cohen - The Future (highly recommended)
Tom Waits - Burma Shave
Cake - Excuse me I think I have a heart ache (Great Buck owens cover)
Miles Davis 'Round Midnight

I know what you mean. There have been times when you simply get burned out. The thrill is gone, so to speak.

Exploring music when you are bored with your 'normal' music habits is good and bad. Sometimes, you find something really exciting, but then again, you may be looking for a quick fix, and give up on a certain sound too quickly.

Have you tried just picking some stuff out of your collection you haven't heard in a while? It's always pleasant to hear stuff that you have not paid attention to in a while.

BTW, try some Glenn Miller and his Orchestra. That stuff kicks!!!

If all else fails, simply try going without music for a while. Blasphemous, some will say, but it's surprising, sometimes, to discover what goes through your mind while you're in total quiet.

He converted me I know have 9 albums. Oh and a list

Tiger Army (Check out the AOTWC thread)
Nekromantix
Horrorpops
Mad Sin
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Lightning Bolt
DFA'79
and I'm not naming any more because if I were to name them they will of already been named with out me knowing.

Yeah well that sometimes leaRAB you to find out that there was a reason you hadn't listened to it in ahwile, and forces you to think "man I had ****ty taste in music"

But to be fair, As Bob Dylan suggested to Sheryl Crow in her writing slump, listen to what got you juiced as a child, made you love music. I tried it myself, it works.

In your case, go jam the misfits I guess.

I'm just getting bored with rock, punk in paticular I doubt jammin a misfits record'll help. I need something new and just not the typical stuff I listen to. Alot of the reccomendations have reallly been kind of well, I can listen to them and be more into it then saetia or something, especially the shins. But blegh, I still have like..just the same feeling just less =/

I know how you feel man.

Perhaps you gotta stop cramming so much of it into your ears and head. Take a break for a week and just listen to something really low key, something very mellow for a while before you try anything new.

We all know people can't swim without coming up for air. You've probably been underwater for quite some time now.

In case you're wondering why I'm suddenly obessed with them, I saw them live last night and they were great! Anyway, these are a bunch of really good new-ish artists you should check out...

12twelve (Jazz/House fusion type thing with some Post-Rockish influences)
Aerial (Dutch Post-Rock band)
The Changes (Chicago-based Indie Rock band)
Hot Chip (Mellow-ish Electronic)
Hypatia Lake (Noisy Shoegaze-ish Post-Rock)
I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness (Indie Rock, their EP was produced by Britt from Spoon! :D)
The Most Serene Republic (Indie Rock band from Canadia. They're on Arts & Crafts, so they have to be good!)
Portugal. The Man (typical Indie Rock stuff)
Rahim (Artsy Post-Punk influenced Indie Rock)
Red Sparowes (Best Post-Rock album of last year, hanRAB down)
Rurable In Rhodos (More Indie Rock stuff, I don't really like their album all that much, but a friend of mine swears by it)
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (Really good Indie Pop)

And as always whenever someone asks me to recommend them something, listen to lots and lots of Les Savy Fav.

I'm gonna have to second Mr. Bungle and also suggest:

Sweep The Leg Johnny (really cool punk/jazz fusion)
Thinking Fellers Union Local #282
Polvo (specifically, Today's Active Lifestyles)
Glenn Branca
Captain Beefheart (probably the closest to avant jazz rock has ever gotten)
The Residents

Hot Chip
I Love You But Ive Chosen Darkness
Most Serene Republic
Red Sparowes
Portugal. The Man
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin

Thats the only artists I could find stuff by, and i'll post my thoughts on 'em in a few days after I check all of them out more and let it sink in and what not.

30 seconRAB to mars - I promise you it's like nothing you've ever heard, you'll realise that you never really liked any music before you heard this anyway x
