AP US History question?

for AP US history i have to answer this question in at least 200 words but i have no idea what to write: In what ways are Florida, the southwest, and California still affected by their historical connections with Latin America? To what extent are the Hispanic elements in these areas a legacy of the colonial past, and to what extend are they a product of more recent historical development?

I've already written that the city names of California and the southwest are greatly affected by their hispanic background (e.g. San Diego, etc) but i don't know what else to write.
 
More than city names, the buildings are usually of spanish style and the food has elements of Mexican cooking in it. As for the extent of recent history, the flood of immigrants from mexico tend to settle in these areas further affecting their spanish influence.
