[h=3]Associated Press[/h]ALBANY, N.Y. — The final New York gun control provisions expected to be passed Monday night hit a dozen major aspects including a much tighter assault weapon ban and restrictions on ammunition and sale of guns.
The provisions obtained by The Associated Press would create a mandatory police registry of assault weapons under a more restrictive definition. All private sales would require a background check done through a licensed dealer. The law would also create a more powerful tool to require the reporting of mentally ill people who say they intend to use a gun illegally.
The details, confirmed by five legislative officials, are part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's gun control bill and are priorities of Democrats and Republicans. The officials requested anonymity because lawmakers are still signing off on some provisions.
