I like the mountain bike look but the bike will be used on the road. It's to get from A to B and for leisure. Basically stylish and good-quality. I might be able to go a little over budget.
I'm looking for specific recommendations.

just look in your local yellow pages under cycle shops and find a shop nearest to you. DO NOT go to Halfords because they don't have very good bikes and they mess you around when you go to try and fix it. just go to a local shop, its always better to help small busineses and also they take more care with your bike.

you will get a pile of shite for that money
it will fall apart in a week
if its or the road then get a urban/commuter bike
that way you wont have to change the tyres which will cost you another 20-50 notes
look for discounted bikes (previous model, stock clearance)

second hand is your best option

halfords do have some very good qualiity bikes despite what some may say the only issue with halfords is the 16 yr that try and put the bike together for you, how ever if the bike is only to get from point a to b then any cheap bike will do but i would recommend buying a second hand bike from ebay or the local papers you will get a better quaility bike for the price,
