I see that the mobile IM brew application is ripping people off, by charging them a text message fee for each Instant Message.

I was wondering, besides VERIZONS mobile IM, is there any way to get free AIM? Because even the mobile IM by verizon is not great, it does not even notify me on my Lg dare of new IM, other then show it on the screen. no AIM sound or vibration on my phone....

now, I tried ebuddy.com and its ok, only thing, its web based, free, but my LG dare is a "dumb smart phone" and it doesnt remember the last web page I go to, so I have to go through a number of steps and sign in, and its really not an option I want to use on such a nice phone, other then to be forced to pay for more texts.

ok, so now, can someone make a brew app that would be web based and bypass verizons TEXT MESSAGE based AIM? verizon does not own AIM, and they cant stop people from making BREW apps that would not charge the po end user text for each IM?

Even if you were to find an application that you could use, the dare is NOT a smartphone and you would not be able to download it to the phone. You can only download brew applications via the media center in the phone.

There is no way to get 'free' BREW apps. As posted, each one is registered to your phone's ESN. I have a prog on my comp that uses a unique hardware # to register it to my comp so I can't just give it to others to use for free. Same deal.

Now, if you are on VZW America's Choice II plan, there MAY be a work around to getting 'free' IM of some sort. 'Free' as in it will only use minutes, i.e. nights and weekends will be free.

tried that with the v3m and it doesnt work... provider blocks access to the necessary brew directories. same behavior with both QPST and BitPim. must be phone specific for ability to do that. I doubt p2k commander has access to those directories... it doesnt see a LOT of stuff that BitPim and QPST does.. matter of fact though, p2k commander is Moto specific, so you theoretically cant use that app on an LG anyhow.

think about things before you go shooting your load about "YES IT IS POSSIBLE". not everyone has a phone where that is a valid proceedure.

also keep in mind that on Nationwide calling plan that data is not free (applies to VZNavigator, browsing/downloading from GIN, mobile AIM etc..) you'd have to have the VPack to get the data to be "free" and that costs 15 bucks a month, other wise you get billed per MB of data that is transferred. So NO... there really is NO free texting with a mobile AIM application.

AIM Blows my nuts anyhow.

ACII plan + free WAP proxy hack = data charged at a rate of Minutes of usage (rather than the per/MB rate of Nationwide plan). Use your email or w/e through the WAP browser and you have effectively got "free" messaging during your Unlimited nights and weekends. But yeah... its illegal to do that though.
