Anything more complete then the N95?

My trusty i930 is nearly done, as I'm dumping Nextel in the US because they cannot provide what I need anymore. I have a few requirements though:

Phone must be sim-based and available unlocked. I don't sign service plans with anyone nor do I do prepaid plans (except with China Mobile). I get a rate plan, with NO contract, and just take the SIM card, as I swap them depending where I am in the world.

- Has to have GSM 850/1800/1900 minimum. WCDMA is a bonus.
- No WM phones. The WM ******** is 1/2 the reason the i930 must go.
- Must have IMAP mail ability, and be able to handle reading most file types used in document emailing (PDF, xls, doc, txt) through an app, or 3rd party app.
- OS must hold contacts, rather than saving to the sim card.
- Hi-res camera + video are a must.

So I find the N95 or the E90 are probably the best equipped out there, but the E90's just too big. The big inside screen and qwerty isn't enough to make it worth the extra weight and size. If there's something I'm missing, post it up and I'll look.

Just for the sake of you Iphone fanatics, i saw one, it's nice, but it's AT&T specific - and I can't (yet) make it work with my other foreign SIM cards, so it's out of the question.
 
Good luck getting a rate plan with no contract in the US. That's currently an anathema to US carriers, whether you buy a phone or not (they just LOVE contracts..mostly because they love to charge people for breaking them).

Anyway, the N95 should be able to do anything you want, and may even be overkill. If you're not willing to go Windows Mobile, then that means you'll have to go with S60, and the N95 is the cream of the crop.

However, if you don't need WiFi, Nokia has many other models that might fit the bill...how "hi-res" a camera do you need? What is your budget, too? And do you have a form-factor preference?
 
No budget, I don't really care what it costs as long as it works, and well.

I use the camera when I'm on business, and I need some decent quality shots so I don't have to carry an actual camera with me. I've found the 1.3 MP cameras to be inadequate for most things, so I liked the specs of the N95's.

For US carriers, no prob. I did it through Nextel last time, and AT&T did say they would do a monthly plan for just a sim card, but with no 2 yr contract the rates are different. Don't care really. It's worth it in the long run to me to be able to move carriers if one can't cut it.

The wifi would be helpful though.. I'm in foreign airports a lot, and when I'm not on a US network with the data, I need a way to do mail, and other stuff... like book hotel rooms and other emergency things you would usually need a computer to do.

S60 is fine, haven't used it personally but I see good reviews of it, and there seems to be some decent software. The WM has been the only thorn in the i930's side - if it ran on S60, it would be still such an awsome phone after all this time. But, WM has corrupted the filesystem on the SD card, it's constantly freezing, hanging, applications fail, crash, and hang all the time and there's no way to release the app or memory except to turn it off.
 
It's just to bulky for me. And As much as I love Nokia I can't stand how sluggish the OS is.
I'd rather have an iPhone than an N95. I would just wait for the iPhone to be unlocked. The touch screen is so slick along w/ the interface and the screen is really nice.
 
The iPhone isn't going to be unlocked anytime soon, and might not ever be unlocked if Apple has it's way. Also, the camera isn't good enough to do the job. No 3rd party apps, and no video recording capability.

Sounds like the N95 should work well.
 
Nooo...they're having AJAX web-based applets...any additional programs have to come in a "firmware" update (in quotes because it's basically the OS, which is larger than typical firmware).

And the OP specified he wanted video recording capability, which the iPhone can't do.
 
With no flash, no autofocus, no zoom, no video recording

It's worse than the SE W810i camera (2.0MP with flash/autofocus) and the W810i was released a year ago.

It will not even come close comparing to my N73 camera leave alone the N95.

No they aren't. Some guy found a way to run a simple 3rd party script. If anything, 3rd party apps may be "hacked" in but Apple likely won't allow 3rd party apps. They'll have to be forced into the phone.

The N95 is great. It has the best camera and one of the best screens of any phone out there. I believe it's quite a bit thinner than the i930 as well. While pricey, it definitely has everything you're looking for, and includes GPS to boot!
 
Skalogre is right, given the no video issues, even if resolved on the Iphone, it's still locked, so why wait around for something that might or might not happen? I need to replace my existing soon, so I don't have the luxury of hoping for an unlock.

BB is a nice idea, but there's trouble using it's features abroad. You need to have the blackberry service, and I have no need for that. It's wasted money when I can IMAP to my mail server from anywhere.

Yeah, a 2.0 MP camera might suffice.... barely. But I'd prefer something better.

Oh, and as far as S60 being slow... is it really? The WM on my i930 is the definition of slooooooooooooooooooooooow. Typical Win OS. Looks pretty, but can't hold it's liquor.

Anyway, I understand the iphone fanaticism, but it's not for me. Take out the Iphone comments, and it looks like a no-brainer. Tks guys!
