I found this game called Goal Line Blitz and it is absolutely free to play.
You can create a player at any position you want. Then you work to get him signed to a team with a good contract and play against live human opponents in an attempt to win your league.
You can also buy a team and manage everything from the stadium build to the cost of the hot dogs.
The game is a lot of fun, and very addicting. Your players will play every other day, and as they accumulate points from experience, you get to make them better.
