Anyone using this tank protector?

and if so, does it do a good job of coverage and also look good on your 848/1098?

If not, what are you using, and do you have photos and a quick summary of your experience with it?

My experience...works great, inexpensive.

I second on the tank slapper. Have used them on all my bikes and they work great. You can hardley see them and they are durable. Not too mention the low cost.
The 1098 was the most difficult to apply on the center portion of the tank. It will go on, you just need to have a little time to do it right.

Tank protector! That ain't no stinkin tank protector!

ShiftTec.. Now thats a tank proctector...

I use both the ShiftTec as well as the 3M clear..

I got one of the clear tank protectors fro the dealer when I got my bike. Parts of the adhesive that wasn't stuck to teh tank were collecting all sorts of sand and dirt. I saw the same thing when I took off the reflectors from the front fender. The protector ended up putting small scratches on the tank in those areas, probably from the protector being pushed on as I rode. You won't see it with your opaque protectors, but I can imagine the same thing happening under those tank protectors.

+1 for tank slapper, and the stuff is invisible. I like the way the bike looks without the doodads and other stuff, much cleaner.

I got the full kit and opted for the 3m stuff for the sheets that cover the tank (4 pieces: gas cap area, the back of the tank, and the two sides) because I got the two sides to start pealing off at the lower edges (where my knees rub) during rides (it's just stuck on by static, no adhesive). The 3M stuff is a bit harder to put on but it won't peal off because it has an adhesive back. the 3m is also tougher. It costs a few bucks more but worth it. My bug splat pic was right on the top fairing piece.

I have that exact same one on mine. It doesn't fit that well. It tends to peel off around the top curve of the tank. I'm taking it off and putting on the one you see earlier from shift-tech, that's definitely give you the protection you need and it looks nice as well.

Interested in the clear one - I had a clear one on my 748 and it did its job very well.

So, tank slapper is applied without adhesive, but the 3M is sticky? I'm concerned with removal later... how much crap is the adhesive one going to leave behind/how much more difficult is it going to be to install perfectly?

The tank slapper video is pretty impressive. I think I could probably do that.

I did it, it's easy. stank slapper also included a little piece of the 3M for me to practice with. I never took the stuff off so I can't help you there, but all the literature I've read about the 3M polyethylene is that it's not a problem.
