Since maploader is for pc only and some people have macs..Is there any other to download the state maps directly to the phone?
Anyone using smart2go??

Yeah, then N95 is your best bet...
You know the GPS receivers are getting cheaper and cheaper, I read (should dig in allsymbianforums) of one type that sells on ebay (sold from hk or taiwan) that costs arond $40-$50 and is bluetooth enabled. Maybe it was a Holux or something like that.

POI's are something that every single GPS that I've used to date (Wayfinder, TomTom, Nav4All, MGmaps, and amAze) need to improve upon. Personally, I don't want them to show up on my actual map, i think it's cluttered. But I want to be able to search through (or browse) easily.
Jonny - Think of it like this. with Smart2Go, for free you get the service and the map. You can search the map and browse it for free. You can also say "I'm at Point A, and I want to get to Point B, tell me how to do that" and it will say, ok, I'll show it to you on the map. You can also say, here's my GPS, it's saying I'm here. I want to get to "Point B" OR I want to get to the closest Arby's restaurant, how do I do that? and it'll say, ok, you go straight for 1.5 miles, then turn left. Then you keep straight for 4 miles, then a sharp right.
That's all free.
What you PAY for is for turn-by-turn directions WHILE YOU"RE MOVING. I.e. you do the above and it'll say, ok, in 1 mile you turn left. Ok, that right turn is now half a mile, ok turn left RIGHT HERE. Now go straight, wait, you missed your turn, let me figure out another way.
So in other words, you get the map for free, and you can do whatever you want with the map. But if you want an active copilot, you have to pay.

Well, you answered my question in a roundabout way.
As I've said, GoogleMaps will plan my route step-by-step for me without asking for a dime. Does amAze or TomTom charge for navigation? I've been waiting for your review of these other apps to get more information.

As an aside...google released GPS enabled Mobile Maps for windows mobile phones a few days ago. Hopefully symbian support won't be far behind.

Its feb 12 and still no show on smart2go website. I can understand delays for phones, but even this! Seriously...

I downloaded a small map (Delaware and it included Philadelphia, perfect) just to play around with the free version since I don't have a GPS yet. Just searching for my favorite Thai restaurant, a hair salon, and my house it seems like a nice little app. It didn't take long to install on my phone, or to download the the tiny (8.7mb) map. It's a keeper.

You think? At least on the N95/E90 they should have made the full navigation free and used it to _SELL PHONES_. That's their business right? Actually they should have made full navigation free on all Nokia phones.
My cheap-***-ness aside, you're right, the pricing is pretty reasonable and lot cheaper than tomtom. I could see myself forking out 10 bucks on vacation somewhere.

well I found out tonight my topram 2g got corrupted (so going to RMA it) and back to the Nokia... I thought they were reviewed well in these forums, that teaches me to buy anything but sandisk...
Back to install smart2go, took forever w/ maps, going to test it with a pharos gps tomorrow.

The way the download speeds are, I think its on a server in Tibet!
From the traceroute though, it seems like the server (one of them, actually) with i.p. addr: 194.29.227.73 is located in Germany.

Damn straight.
After installing my California map and setting up the view for the Restaurant Icons to be displayed, my map never shows the icons...even after connecting then searching and finding the restaurants. It'll go to the restaurant location, but it won't display the icon indicating there is one there. I assumed this was not a pay function. I had to cancel the map download in the middle, but started the download all over again later on. Could this be the problem or are the restaurant poi's just not suppose to show up? Thanks a head of time for a response.
So I tried it tonight, with a Pharos GPS driving home, it works pretty nicely. I did not try a navigation (did not want to pay yet for it), maybe next time I drive to another state, I'll give it a shot. The POI's are great!, though it lacks information... I wonder, who is their provider in US (Navteq ?)
