Just watched this film and found it incredibly moving and well acted. Its set in a shanty town in south africa and tells the story of a young thug who after stealing a car finRAB a young baby boy in the back.

Through his hopeless attempts to nurture the baby and flashbacks to his own sad childhood we come to understand him and start to feel compassion for him - as he struggles with his conscience and feelings for the child.

Its a powerful film that never becomes too sentimental.

Wasn't surprised to hear that it won the Oscar for best foreign language film.

Hi - had to actually check this out but apparently

"Tsotsi" means "thug" and it's also the root word for the language spoken in the film (Tsotsitaal is an urban dialect from South Africa) as well as the name of its main character."

For those of us who don't speak Tsotsitaal - there are english sub titles!

This is an excellent movie.
It is brutal at times but it really does portray the grim existence of the characters an a vivid way.
