Anyone seen the new "Heathcliff: Bad Kitty" trailer?

Last year it was announced that a new CGI Heathcliff movie would be made.

On YouTube there's a trailer for a new CGI animated film called, "Heathcliff: Bad Kitty".

The plot is pretty uninspiring. Heathcliff has to help three mischievous kittens find their way home. *yawns*

Also, apparently a new Heathcliff series is in the works. Too bad DiC (or Cookie Jar, or whatever they're calling themselves now) couldn't be involved. I'd love to see The Catillac cats again.

Then, again I also wouldn't want to see them derailed.

The person voicing Heathcliff sucks. But, that's probably just because I'm so used to Mel Blanc, who can never be replaceable.

The trailer I just watched (it's from 8 months ago, is that it?) seems pretty dull. It's a nice CGi rendition of the character, but I don't think there's really demand for a Heathcliff comeback.

It'll pretty much open to endless Garfield comparisons.

Maybe they should've gotten Noel Blanc to do it. He probably would've been able to create a voice more similar to his father's.

Noel Blanc did do Heathcliff in a couple of episodes of the DiC series when Mel was too sick to come to the studio.

"Meow Meow Island" is one episode I can think of where it's Noel (note Heathcliff has very little dialogue, and when he talks, it doesn't quite sound like Mel, and is kinda nasal). There's another episode where Noel did Heathcliff but the exact episode has slipped my mind.

I'm not sure Noel would be open to do Heathcliff, or any other voices. It's just not his thing.

You could be right about that. I thought he was still an active voiceactor but judging from his IMDB profile he hasn't done much of it since Tiny Toon Adventures ended. Maybe he lost interest.

Ughhhh. Didn't the horrible failure of Marmaduke teach these guys anything?

...probably not. I suppose next year we can look forward to a movie starring Fred Basset.

I don't think the Marmaduke movie is a fair comparison. That movie is live-action/CGI, plus Marmaduke talks (unlike both the comics and the animated version* in which he doesn't talk). This one is a fully animated CGI movie. Now, I kind of had a feeling that the Marmaduke movie was going to be a failure from the start, but when I saw the trailer for this movie, it felt like classic Heathcliff to me (and this is notwithstanding the fact that in the original comics, he doesn't talk at all). However, part of the reason I can say this is that unlike Garfield, Heathcliff has always been able to move his lips when he talks, so that's something at least.

In any case, I have a feeling about this movie. When and if the movie finally comes out, I plan to give it a try. I think this one might actually be a winner (at least IMO, also I have guessed wrong before...)

*Ironically, Marmaduke had shared a TV show with Heathcliff in 1981, produced by Ruby-Spears. In fact, it was the second season of that series, which was made prior to the more remembered 1984 series by DIC.
