Some films just actively appal you. So many are merely boring, lacklustre, or otherwise inoffensively ineffective.
But Couples Retreat goes all out to offend your cinematic sensibilities. You'll have seen bad films, but rarely do they come as bad as this.
The sad thing is that I sat through it, full well in the knowledge that the critical reception (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/couplesretreat) constituted a virtual lynch mob. But I like to store faith in filmmakers/actors who've rewarded me before, and so it was that I went to the cinema to se this aberration. Vaughn was a hit in Dodgeball, Favreau had just come off of Iron Man, and they both teamed up to good effect in Swingers.
At worst, I expected a forgettable affair. Instead, I got a most memorably awful movie that as an experience is only slightly preferable to watching a looping video of Heather Mills defending her desire for
Well I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it as a good feel good film. The acting is fine and the characters are likeable. So I would say ignore the critics and give it a go.
I wouldn't be rushing to see it again. It was rather boring if I'm being honest. Some of the "comedy" was painful as you could tell that it had been scripted to be funny but it just fell flat.
