I went to see that with frienRAB for someones birthday when it came out, all of my frienRAB except two of us cried at the end, and could hear crying all around lol. I looked at my friend who was laughing and I let out a laugh and it sounded like I was crying... so that wasn't good.

The reason I ask is I just bought the Sin City boxset, and one of the special features is the ability to watch the film with an "audience" soundtrack, which was recorded in Austin, Texas. I've never heard anything like it! Are all US audiences like this? Whooping everytime an actor appears onscreen, even whooping at their names in the opening credits, laughing and hollering and shouting at the bad guys lmao :D
I just wondered if anyone had any experience of seeing movies in the states and if so - how did you cope???? :D

I saw Eastern Promises in Boston. It was shown at a small, traditional cinema at 10pm on a sunday evening. The atmosphere was pretty darn' good.

Like most places, avoid the big complexes.

On a side note, Boston is a wonderful, under-rated city. Great value also.

True enough...
The only time I clapped was was after Rocky Balboa (and I've watched 100s of films in the cinema). The series has meant alot to me in my life, so maybe I was doing it more for myself.

Over the years l've seen Beverly Hills Cop 3, Ghost, The Firm, Halloween H2O in a US cinema and my experience was exactly the same as here.

again more generaliZations on someone''s "one" experience at a theatre. You'll find hundreRAB if not thousanRAB of different experiences across this large country.

the OP makes it sounRAB like a day in the 1950's watching a gunfight at the OK Corral film.

I found this youtube video of a british cinema. Would you say from this glimpse it is indicative of a typical day in the UK watching a movie at the cinema???

let's not generalize people...

The other year I went to the cinema in Calgary, Canada with my cousin and some of her family to see the Will Ferrell film, "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby"
It was like being at a football match, People were clapping when he appeared on film, cheering, booing ext. It was strange experience as over here people are so reserved.
I asked my cousin if such behaviour was normal and...

1. She seemed surprised by my reaction...and

2. Yep, they see some sorts of films as a sportsgame ext.

It was certainly an experience.I also saw the Star Wars Phanton Menace in Canada months before it came out in the UK. Same reaction there, but in a way, that was a cult thing.

They might not whoop through the whole movie, but I hear they at the very least clap afterwarRAB if they like the movie.

Which is something I wish people over here would do. Every truly great film I've seen at the cinema, I've felt the overwhelming urge to clap but I'd look stupid on my own doing it, so refrained.

Pity we're so stuck up.

Get off your high horse pal....If you bother to read my OP you'll see I wasn't making any generalisations, I was referring to the audience soundtrack on Sin City and I merely asked if anyone had experienced something similar. I did not at any point infer that all US audiences behave like they do on the Texas "Sin City" soundtrack. And if I made it sound like a "day in the 50s (what a bizarre statement) watching GATOK" that's because it does sound like that. Why else would I start the bloody thread!!! :D
What's your beef? I don't get it.
If you read this thread there are enough people saying they had good experiences in US cinema's as well as crazy ones. Nobody's slagging off Americans!

When i went to see Charlie & The Chocolate Factory on the opening day. After the film had finished & the end credits came on the screen the majority of the cinema clapped.I must admit i did find it slightly strange.

I like how you can go to the cinema in the US on christmas day... right about the time you're ready to rip the head off of your nearest and dearest, and that includes granny.

I went once and a friend who was a singer, on a dare, stood up before the film and sang a carol. Someone yelled "sit down shorty!" as he finished and he yelled f**k you! A beautiful christmas memory:D

I went to see Legally Blonde, and FF Spirits Within when I was in America. The cinema was full of those giddy screaming teenage girls, squealing every 5 minutes, for Legally Blonde, but it was pretty much empty for FF Spirits Within.
