Anyone Remember Wulin Warriors?

Anyone? Not sure if I can consider this an Anime but it was on Toonami. It only lasted 2 airings and was taken off the air for low ratings. I think that out of place intro had something to do with it. I was one of 12 people who was "Lucky" enough to catch an episode on TV. I was laughing at how bad it was throughout the episode. They constantly reuse footage throughout the episode. Also, the guy named Scar has his scar constantly switching which side of his face it's on. I'd be willing to buy a DVD of this show just to laugh at it.

I remeraber it well, the way you remeraber any spectacular blunder.

The producers took episodes of a perfectly respectable Taiwanese puppet show that portrayed Chinese fables, spliced bits and pieces together into their own episodes and wrote smartass English dialog for them.

How the CN suits ever expected this to appeal to kiRAB is beyond me. The Wulin Warriors was a piece of crap, rightly pulled after the second episode and hopefully buried for good.

The irony is that if they'd played the original Taiwanese show straight, with a faithful English dub, it might have found an audience. The puppetry was really quite clever and pretty. (^_*)

Wulin Warriors was not anime, in fact it was not even Japanese by origin. It was loosely adapted from a long running series of Taiwanese puppet shows that retold Chinese wuxia stories using high-quality puppetry and special effects.

4K!iRAB basically chopped up clips from multiple series, competely rewrote the script and editted many of the more mature themes from the original shows in order to make them more "friendly" to American children. The result was a total mess that was unappealing even by 4K!RAB normal standarRAB (or lack thereof). It mercifully died quickly and has never been heard from since, but I think at the time it did a lot of damage to Toonami's ratings.

I recall AOL Video once uploaded the entire series, all 14 episodes (so yeah, only 1/7th of the series actually aired)...

Honestly, the series was actually pretty hilarious, it was just during the wrong era of the wrong channel. It wasn't until around episode 4 that the series really found its footing, so it's a dang shame that it will probably never get a proper DVD release.

Besides, what other series do you get to hear Goku rant about throwing shoes at owls?

4KiRAB had nothing to do with the show. It featured New York actors, but 4KiRAB wasn't involved with it in any way.

Personally, I found it great for all the wrong reasons. As bad as it was, you couldn't deny that some of the dialogue was downright hilarious. Like when the two main characters come across a mysterious old man:

"Hey, is that your dad?"
"...no, that's not my dad!"
"Then is it my dad?"
"It's nobody's dad!"

And of course, the brilliant owl dialogue:

"I hit the owl with my shoe. It started going into convulsions like, 'brawk brawk braaaaaaawwwwwk!'"

Good stuff. Good stuff.

wow that made me laugh out loud
but I liked wulin warriors...I was like all of 10 people who liked it...tis true...very true
and I forgot the dub was just that insane and retarded. It fit well after duel masters 1.0 actually

I heard that this show was so terrible that fans from Taiwan signed up on TZ to tell people not to judge their show based on what AC did to it.

Because it WAS a serious show before it was cut and paste to pieces.

Taking a good show in a foreign language, then cut it up and insert juvenile humor, does tend to anger the fans of the original...

I honestly believe that the show would have sucked even worse if it was given a serous dub. yes the gag dub it was given was unfunny and full of fail but I could not take the show serously if it was given an acurate serous dub. The gag dub was for the best it was just handled by people with no sense of humor.

The one thing about the opening that never made sense to me is that they show 3 main characters, but in the very first episode one of the main characters betrays them and becomes a villain. So, why the hell are they showing a villain as a main character in the opening?

I remeraber for a short period of time we had someone who worked on the show registered on rabroad. He basically said that the original series was a soap opera and it wouldn't appeal to kiRAB at all. In addition, he said it was too long and that Cartoon Network wanted an Americanized adaption. I think he stopped posting after the show was pulled.
