Anyone read Ultimo?

Yea, I read some chapters out of it. At first, it was ok, but nothing new to grab me. But the second chapter, was much better.

It's pretty much a story of two dolls, one doll is pure good, another is pure evil. Sound typical, right? But “What is good?” and “What is evil?”. Like, if some hero kills a bad guy, is that a good thing? I mean, this guy is evil and you kill him, are you a good guy?

That's pretty much what the manga is going through. Not the most original story ever, but I like it.

The art style is good, it fits in the story. Thought it does go through some stereotypical art design (Guy look like girls), at most of the characters are ok looking.

The only thing that's disappointing me are how some manga reader are bashing it. “It's not a manga because an american is writing it”, “Why is an american is writing manga?”, “This american don't know how to write manga, he only knows how to write superheroes stuff”.
How come some manga readers never give things a chance?

Chapter 0 was awful but Chapter 1 was pretty good. Those are the only two chapters out so far so its not like you have to worry about investing a lot of time into reading something you may dislike. I say give it a shot.

All I know is the real judgment will come with the Ultimo Volume 1 Manga. I didn't care that much about the story which is pretty much how I feel about another manga entitled Future Diary. anyhoo, I haven't caught on the characters and well the so-called villain of evil who is, like stated before is a doll like his brother, is pretty much a guy who kills because he was built to be a destroyer and nothing else. I guess what Stan Lee's character was trying to do was to deliver the dolls to a neigrabroadoring village and give them to the chief/president/leader of the people to try and get money from them and to make sure that the town is protected from anyone who will try to invade them. However, that would just be a trap since like I had stated before, the evil doll whose name I can't recall at the moment, just loooooves destruction and will be playing a game with the protaganist to see if he has what it takes to defeat him even if it means death.

That being said, the whole story can be observed as similar to Astro and Atlas relationship from the 2003 Astro Boy anime or even Goku and Vegeta from DBZ. The story so far is already making me not even buy the first volume when it comes out lagter this year but the art is good but I kinda wish that people can get out of the whole "Let's draw boys as girls" style that's been pretty popular even from back in the day when I first read manga. So I would say to read the first volume at your bookstore first and then make the final decision to buy it and keep it because if you buy it firsthand without giving it a read, then you're just wasting money or wasting time trying to take it back to the store for a full refund.

I think it was written by Stan Lee. Or at least it feels like it, considering the constant narration and style sounRAB like it was taken from an American comic.

All I have to say is... Why is Ultimo a guy? He looks like a girl, he has clothing that is feminine and at most angles it looks like he has a rack. So by manga logic he can still be a guy but why bother if you're going to make him look so much like a girl? Just make him a girl. Goodness knows Shonen Jump could use another decent female protagonist.

True, it does have that American comic book style of writing. But I see there's not a whole lot, so I didn't got to annoyed by it. Though, like I said, this is where many manga reader are begining to bash the manga. Not the story, but how the story is written....And also " American trying to do manga".

I know how you feel. That type of art style really annoys me. This is why I was trun-off by code geass. (IMO)

I get the feeling Ultimo is supposed be, like, an angel. So, while he's a "he" on technicality, he has no legitimate gender, and is somewhere... in between, physically.

And it's pretty good, I think. I like the "battle across time and space" feeling, and it's interesting to see Stan Lee's style with such Japanese art.
