Anyone looking to get the new G1

every phone is going to have its faults and what not! But I think its stupid that they left all these features out, knowing the current competition. But they OS update will help the device out a lot. I was interested in the G1 device but I was reading the reviews and such & I get the feeling the notion of too many different reviews! Oh well. I heard it was buggy too. I don't knw

I did a hands on demo of the G1 today, the keyguard kept locking on me. I had to have the tmo rep unlock it about 4 times in the 10 mins i was playing around with it, maybe they had it set that way to prevent a theft i dont know. The OS didnt lag at all and the screen was pretty responsive, bright and crisp. The browser was slow as hell on EDGE but the pages came up like i was on a PC (checked out rabroad, myspace, and tmobile.com). The kebord was nice i had no problem typing on it and it had a nice trackball on it too. I really didnt like the shape and the overall feel of it. Maybe im just too used to my curve. I give it a 8/10. It was just the shape of it that made me not want it.

Edit- didnt have time to check out the media player, the store had the heat kickin and me in my winter coat i wanted to get out of there.

If you don't live in a 3G area your T-Mobile stores won't have the g1 tomorrow~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

Did anyone get their preorder in?

I'd love someone to write a review for this! Especially a BB to G1 user to see how it compares.

Well, I can't really give a full review because I just got the G1 yesterday. But I can tell you what I know so far. Also I've been a curve user for a year now.

First off, this is a new device. And so is the OS, very new and unproven..which ends up being a compliment because it looks like it will be the best OS very shortly! and by a wide margin! Amazing for it to be new. When you think of how much will be added just in the months ahead, its just staggering! As far as the hardware...Some uniformed people and so-called experts take away points because of the design, and because its not an i-phone clone, but once you own it, you understand totally what HTC and Google had in mind. Navagation, simplicity, and something that just flat out works! and they come thru with almost flawless execution! Also its beautiful in person. much smaller that the pics you see!

The screen has to be 1 of the best out there. it reacts to the slightest touch.
Web browsing is A+...Coming from the curve, its really another universe!
Typing is good but not great. about even with the curve IMO. The keys are flat, so its different, and take some getting used to.
Maps are A+! The best I've seen! and well....youve seen the videos of that I'm sure.
Gmail is the only email I've tried and the speed was comparable to my BB. almost instant.
Apps are in the market place and some are useless and some are pure genius!
I Cant explain them all but theres 1 called "Any Cut", lets you put a shortcut of anything thats on your phone, from settings to songs, and put it on your home screen....any of the 3 home screens! Thats just 1. theres some that do the unthinkable.
The Camera takes bad pics in low light(no flash), But takes hi quality shots in a well lit area! you can also edit pics right on the phone, and I mean EDIT! No video rec. YET.
IM is better that my curve's. Its overall apperance is better, and its also instant!duh!lol
Battery life is average at best! It lacks far behind the curve in this aspect! I get 6 to 7 hours of constant HEAVY use before I'm at 10%! I'm sure once I calm down Itll get better! I also have my screen brightness set to max(lovin the screen). I hear alot of people getting a full day. Again still not great! Atleast you get a full charge in about 20-30mins. We're supposed to get an update in the next few days to help with the batt life.

Overall, with ease of use, innovative apps, great screen, Fascinating OS, and the fact TMO wants to give us experienced BB lovers a damn flip phone, I think Its a huge success! At $180, Its nothing close to the G1 at that price! I think the Javelin will be a better challenge, but the curve is not even close. Don't mistake this as another I-phone! Its not nor does it try to be. Its far beyond That!

I have a question for anyone who has this phone. Does the instant messengers use data or text and which messengers does it include, also can you use more than 1 messenger at a time? ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

I just got my phone yesterday and I am curious if anyone has a good way of transferring contacts from their berry to the G1?

@li2327

Sorry, I have no idea. I never checked since I got unlimited data, sms, and mms for $35.. It includes AIM, Google talk, Windows Live, and Yahoo. There's also an IM app called "maverick". You can draw or paint with your finger in the chat and send it. along with a bunch of other customizations! you can sync it with all of your IM accounts.

I am mainly concerned with my contacts from my blackberry, I dont want to have to manually re-enter all of my email addresses into the G1

I read more about it. Those features use SMS. That really surprises me. My main conven would be email and instant messenging. I hardly text at all. That extra 15 a month would be a waste for me. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

After having played with the G1, it was all I wanted. But since the new 4.5 BB upgrade from T-Mobile, I'm not so interested anymore. Now Curve users can stream video/audio AND video capture. Anyone on T-Mobile got the 4.5 upgrade yet?

To bring contacts over from your Blackberry or Outlook it must be all synced up. Then EXPORT to a Dos CSV file.
Then go into your Gmail Contacts on your computer web browser and IMPORT. You will be good to go as it auto updates your phone as well.
