Anyone looking to get the new G1

Well when you look at it all the other cool phones went to other carriers like iphone, storm, diamond touch, and now it is tmobilers time so we might as well take advantage of it cuz you never know if we are getting another one.right?~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

A few negatives of the g1. No microsoft exchange, can't save media in side messages.

Overall it seems good. I'm trying to find out more about the device.
Its really nice though. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

After doing the research, I ordered one. There are several documented shortcomings which is perfectly normal for the very first version of Android in combination with a brand new handset. I choose to view it as what it is: history in the making. I've also set my expectations low & will be using it as a secondary device, therefore any problems that crop up will not leave me stranded. As Google continues to develop the platform & issue bug fixes, it will be fun to be a part of that experience. HTC makes the handeset, and they have a great reputation so I imagine that overall
The G1 will be fun to use.

Archer, I had my expectations low as well, but was floored when I got a chance to try it out. I'm still shocked at how solid it felt. It doesn't move like a slider, instead it swivels gracefully up & down.lol So nice!!

Since I don't use the GPS I hope the battery life will be at least as good as my Pearl is. I used to have a Treo and PPC-6700. Both of those phones died pretty much after 2 phone calls and reading 3 emails. I have loved my Pearl from day one when it first came out and am very leary of giving it up. I will definitely use my 2 weeks when I get my G1 to really know for sure if I will keep it or not.

I ordered mine on Oct. 4th so I have to wait until Nov. 10th.

Oh and you mentioned no MS Exchange. That's perfectly fine for me since I do everything with Gmail and other Google apps. The only thing I hope is that I don't have to re-type all my contact's phone numbers and addresses in again. I know the phone instantly syncs with Gmail contacts, but all I have in there are email addresses.

What do you say?

My advice is to buy it from a TMO store on the 22nd, and refuse the package when it comes on the 10th, & you won't be charged. That's just too long to wait!lol.. Looks like TMO is really tryin to hit a homerun. Mine is already in transit. According to the ups site, I'm do to receive it on the 17th, so they're shipping them out early! That's a great PR move that should pay off big time!

I called 3 stores. 2 were FCFS and one was waiting list. I put my name on it and was about 25 deep. They said they would be getting about 30-40 phones so I should be good. What do you think?

The other stores said that since pre-sale was sold out so fast that they were unsure if they will get many if any.

Also since I did pre-order mine how do I check the order status? I didn't have to pre-pay as it said it would charge me for mine on the bill after I receive the phone.

Thanks
