Anyone looking to get the new G1

I'm just freakin excited for how the OS will make the G1 pumble the competition when it comes to personal productivity. Yes, the BlackBerrys are better for business, but the G1 is going o make everything non-business, extremely fun. lol\

The OS has unlimited posibilites since its open-source.

While I'm very pro open source (Ubuntu on my ThinkPad) & I agree that the Android OS has lots of potential, I wouldn't be so quick to declare it the best over any other smart phone OS. It's simply too soon, in it's infancy & will be only as good as public acceptance & it's evolution. As it sits now they have a long development path ahead & early reports have not exactly raved over it's functionality. In it's favor is the ultra strong Google brand, yet that alone is not enough to guarantee it's success, much less dominance.

So True! we must give it some time before we can give it the crown. dont expect it to rule out the gate. The G1 does appear to be great if all goes according to plan! Lets all hope that it does, because open source only means good for US!! The consumers!!!!

Very Well Said!
I could not agree more. Competition of any type is good. It pushes everyone to new heights. Then when it's from a big name company the intense focus around it is even better. Open Source is, and has been, growing slowly but surely for years. Now that it's out in the public eye, it creates an even better challenge to the status quo. The public has everything to gain & nothing to loose. It's a win/win scenario. One to be celebrated.

But is Open Source free apps and updates for the consumer or does it mean that we'll have many different types of apps available- to buy- for the same OS & phone?

ex. The BB HTML email viewer wars

The new google phone looks kinda funny. I'm a blackberry girl and will forever be one

Not many new phones look good to me. I will just stick to the javelin. I won't be able to afford a new phone for awhile, but I would go with the javelin.

I would love to have the storm but I do not want a touch only phone, I will be on the G1 bandwagon but my loyal pearl will still be along for the ride

Your smart.....very smart indeed. The BlackBerry will never disappoint us. It's a proven platform that is stable, fast, reliable and at the end of the day, you can simply count on it to do what you want....

Cheers

For the most part I agree with you, I am a huge advocate for the beloved Berry and have converted many people over to them. I am afraid I must say that my feeling about it has been very love hate since the upgrade to 4.5...... hopefully the new wave of Berries coming out won't be as sluggish and turbulent as my pearl has been since the 4.5 upgrade, I cringe every time I know that I need to reboot and browsing is painful at best. Don't get me wrong I LOVE!!!!! my pearl but it has its rough edges.

Well...I dont know about that! I Played with a demo of the flip phone today, and its the WORST BB to date! it feels cheap and awkward!!

Also tried a demo of the G1!!! It was stunning! I only played with it for about 30min, but the experience was flawless! the pics just dont do it justice..this phone is sleek and beautiful!! Its smaller that it looks in the pics! The build quality felt more solid than my curve, and surprisingly, the keyboard felt better! And the screen was colorful, crisp, and worked perfectly. Just 30mins and it was the best phone i ever used! maybe my opinion will change once i own it, but for now....WOW!!

Let me clarify my statement. I'm NOT advocating using any BB with 4.5 that is not finished, approved, and supplied by your carrier. Why? for the very reason you are complaining about, as is nearly everyone else (that is not a BlackBerry expert) that has upgraded. If on the other hand you know what you are doing, have patience and get it sorted, the 4.5 upgrade is fine.

If you run the OS, that came with your BlackBerry you will have no complaints, trust me I do know. Far too many people buy into "upgrade mania" and take a perfectly good BB that is working just fine and create their own problems.

Why fix it when it ain't broke? (excuse the ain't, but it's the line)

If on the other hand you have an extra BB to mess with and enjoy tinkering and are prepared for issues then your OK. You don't see experience users "whining". They share their problems, work on fixes and everything works out.

My MAIN BB Curve 8310 is still running on it's Original OS.
version: 4.4.170 platform: 2.5.0.30 And it works perfectly!

Fast, stable, a year old with not one moment of down time. I have no other phones that I can say that about. It's why I rave about BlackBerrys. It's why I have nine others.... I play around with them, upgrading etc. I have an identical 8310 with 4.5.xxx that I use for trying out different things. So I can speak first hand from experience and tell you that it's no faster than my box stock 4.2.2xxx version.

So I stand by my statement and FACT, you can always count on a BlackBerry.... Period....

That's what I was wondering AND hoping for. In some pics it looks small and in others it looks big. I have a pearl now and know it will be bigger than that just from looking at the specs, but I just don't want to go back to a phone the size I had before going Blackberry which was a Treo and PPC-6700. If that's the case then my Pearl stays.

I'm addicted to Google and really, really want this phone to be the best thing that I've ever used and owned.

Thank you for your boost about the G1.
