I read it when i was in seventh grade, and it wasn't one of those little kiddy romance novels, but kind of a deeper novel. there was no girl in the book, i think, at least no significant girl character. it's about a boy who comes to live in a big old house (english? not sure) alone, and he finds a journal from his old deceased relative (i think it was someone like his great uncle or something) and the journal contains the old relative's past exploration into a foreign land, like south america or somewhere like that. There was another old man in the book, the friend of the boy's old relative, and this man took care of the kid's financial stuff, i think. Actually, the man might have gone exploring the foreign land with the boy's relative.
and there was a significant species of flower involved. that's all I remember.
ahgg sorry that the info is so vague but back then I was really into books and I read like two or three books every week for my entire middle school period, and it's nearly impossible to keep track of everything i've read. some books like these were especially memorable and i've been trying to find this book's title for days now, without success. please help! this is killing me!
