Anyone know of a good writing/author software for organizing ideas, etc.?

I know that not software or program can make you a better author and that is certainly not what I'm looking for. Its more of a program I can save ideas in keep a story with all its chapters organized. Its just something that I can use to save up all the trouble of various text documents really.

I really would do the notebook thing, but I have really nosy friends and family members and I don't want them snooping around, it really throws off my creativity for some reason. I backup most of my stuff elsewhere anyway.
 
Just use various notepads and keep pencils at handy. Programs are just useless, take up space and they cannot do things for you. Besides, what if something happens to your computer?
I have at least two notebooks I keep to write ideas and jot notes on. It's really simple.
