Anyone know how to write HTML code? Please help, I'm desperate!?

Ok, so basically I have bought a domain name and am now working on its main function. I can not reveal it but I will say that I want users to be able to go on to my site, add stuff to a 'basket', add stuff to their friends 'basket' and then compare, with the option of posting their results to facebook, twitter etc. Any idea on where to start with this? Do I need to start from scratch, and if so how? Or are there widgets out there already and its just a matter of copying and pasting some code? Please help, thanks, all answers appreciated, Jack
