Anyone know how i could get this to work with nokia internet radio?

If you are trying to get it to play from WBBM's website, it wont work with Nokia Internet Radio. I tried, since they broadcast the Bear's games. I posted somewhat of a workaround HERE
This will allow you to use Nokia Internet Radio.
You should also be able to use Skyfire, and possible Opera or ORB. But they will suck down about twice as much battery life.

This method is for adding your own streaming station so that Nokia can rebroadcast it to other NIR listeners. You would need to have WBBM contact Nokia about adding it to the list. I dont think you can rebroadcast WBBM legally without their consent.

In a recent post on allaboutsymbian.com discussing the fact that the nokia internet radio doesn't work on the 5800, a commenter mentioned moodio.fm. That site will transcode seemingly any internet radio station in 3gpp (I think) format for your phone. You can add your own URL to their list of stations too.

I used it to transcode a local station that only streams in windows media format which of cour my 5800 can't handle.

If you're having format issues that site may help. Add a bookmark to your 'my stations' page and you're good to go.

How did you find the info for the first part of the stream? What is the 16/lax-msg01 ????

I used URL snooper and found the some of the url that you posted, but not all of it

thanks

I'm not familiar with "URL snoopers" and how they work, but the one you have must not be doing its job.

All I did was:
  • Launch the packet sniffer ("Packet peeper"), and started a capture with this filter:
    Code:
    tcp port 80
  • Launch iTunes, and select the given radio station (WBBM)
  • Stop the capture, then choose the "follow TCP stream" option
  • Note that the traffic was to/from "16.lax-mg01.streamtheworld.net"
  • Note the HTTP command: "GET /WBBMAMCMP3 HTTP/1.1"
  • Add the two together.

It may of course be that if you were to do the same, you would get a different URL (host name) - it seems that "streamtheworld.net" operate a distributed server network for better customer proximity.

This is an awesome find. too bad theres not Nokia Internet Radio for the 5800. I will try it on my other Nokias though.

Weird thing is, i click on that link up there, and it starts downloading a HUGE mp3 file.

is that normal?

Ok URL Snooper is what I have been using.

I figured it out,

I went through the list of URL's. Double clicking on the listed URL's. Some would open in WMP, some with Winamp. When I finally got it streaming on WinAmp, I clicked on file info. It gave me the http://208.80.54.128:80/WBBMAMCMP3

I entered this into Internet Radio manually and it worked.

Great. :)
The rDNS entry for that IP address gives 118.lax-mg12.streamtheworld.com.
The forward DNS for the name I found above gives 208.80.54.16.
I think you can assume that most IP addresses within that same subnet would work, and that they balance the load between them.

What kind of success rate have you found using this method? I have a local ESPN station here, that I have never been able to use through Nokia Internet Radio. This is the station I cant get anything to find the URL for this station.

They don't seem to have an MP3 stream available anywhere (I did a couple of different google searches as well).

Sometimes you'll find MP3 streams from third party sources. For instance, I listen to Norwegian Public Radio (NRK) by way of an MP3 streaming services provided by H?gskolen i ?stfold, a regional college.

YMMV.

Thanks, at least I know its not something that I am doing wrong.
I can still use the the Icecast/Edcast to stream those pesky stations and from my Sirius receiver if needed

Just wondering if anyone is still using moodio.fm? It stopped working for me and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it working again. I posted on their forums, but no replies. Hoping hofo is more responsive!

Symptom is that the site loads, I select a streaming link, realplayer opens, connects, but after sitting at the "Loading 0%" for about 30 seconds displays an error and quits.
I've tried different accounts, different network connections (wifi, packet radio, edge, 3G), different streams, etc. Regular streaming of a soma.fm link works fine.

Anyone else still able to use this service?

Thanks!
