Anyone know anything about VW stereos?

I have a 2003 Passat, and for the last year my CD player has given me an error message every time I try to play a CD. I've looked in the service manual about a hundred times but I can't figure out what's wrong. Anyone have any idea what I might do to fix it? I only have so many cassette tapes, and I'm getting sick of most of them :/
