I need to pick someones brains about a movies a saw years ago with Andy Lau in it.

Favourite flick?

Not sure if its my absolute fave but it would be up there - Chungking Express.

i still prefer even after the few years since having bought any chow yun fat movies, hard boiled, the killer, god of gamblers, tiger on the beat, city on fire,

all his films to me are excellent andy lau films are good i may be able help what was it about?

I have most of the Made In Hong Kong titles too.

The Andy Lau film I'm trying to remember isn't one that was available by them a.f.a.i.k.

It's one I watched while I was in Hong Kong yonkers ago and as such didn't have an English translation for a title.

Basically he was a motorcycle racer (track not streets) and he had a young son, but he has an accident which leaRAB to his death. Its abit of a weepy really. I'd love to add it to my collection though.

yer i am. the second half of chungking express is absolutely immense. have you seen any other wong kar wai? saw happy together the other week, class again.

Absolute legend WKK, love his films, Days of Being Wild is my fave and really want to see Eros. Anyone seen Nobody Knows? Chunking Express is a classic, so many more i want to see.

The Wong Kar Wai films I've seen apart from Chungking are:

2046 (if only for Faye)

In The Mood For Love (wasn't this the follow up to DoBW or something?)

Fallen Angels (wasn't this unofficially the sequel to Chungking or something?)

Ashes of Time

Happy Together

Days of Being Wild

As Tears Go By (I really liked this triad flick)

Not sure if I've missed any as I haven't followed his work too closely lately.

Chow Yun Fat - Hard Boiled, The Killer, City On Fire

Stephen Chow - Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, Fight Back To School.

Andy Lau - House of Flying Daggers, Infernal Affairs, Running Out Of Time

House of Flying Daggers.. I would hate for that to be a representation of Hong Kong cinema.

The best of Hong Kong cinema comes from the seventies not from the recent offersings like Hero, Kill Bill, Kung Fu Hustle

I'd forgot about that one - I really liked that too, though its not the one I'm trying to find though.

In A Moment of Romance there are bikes involved but its not really about motorcycle racing as far as I remember. The one I'm trying to find is based around track racing and his relationship with his son.

Bingo!!!!

You are the man, thanks so much! I saw it maybe 15 years ago but I'm not sure why I thought Andy Lau was in it. All along it was Chow Yun Fat.

Cheers mate :)

Raise the Red Lantern is a fantastic watch, as is House of Flying Daggers, I absolutely love that! And Hero, all by Yimou Zhang. All are truly equisite and masterpieces of Asian cinema. Such gorgeous cinematography in all.

I've seen Ashes of Time, 2046, Happy Together, In the Mood for Love and Chungking Express, all by Wong Kar Wai. All absolutely stunning pieces of cinema. Well acted, directed.

Ang Lee created probably the finest and most impressive movie though with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. This movie is flawless. A must-see. Greatest movie ever made in my opinion!

There's some good comedy movies as well such as Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle as mentioned above. I love these as well!

If you haven't already seen these I'd highly recommend these Gong Li / Zhang Yimou films:

Red Sorghum
Ju Dou
The Story of Qui Ju
To Live

and Zhang Ziyi in The Road Home.

Impeccable drama and sumptuous cinematography. I feel the need to watch them again.

I'm not sure I'd label these 'Hong Kong' Cinema though.
