i fitted in my culture just fine, until i came to new zealand to study english. i am 3/4 japanese (father is half japanese half french-german, mother is japanese) and in japan, i was accepted fine. sure, i stood out because i dont look full japanese but i didnt experience any discrimination and people were always interested in my background.
i came to new zealand, sort of expecting the same sort of treatment. in fact i thought my race would matter even less because new zealand is a multi-cultural country. however, i have experienced alot of discrimination from chinese/taiwanese etc people. im not saying everyone of those races is like that, but i have not received one deragatory comment from a european/indian/african person.
so, in japan i fitted in fine and didnt experience any sort of harassment. i come to new zealand and i put up with it almost everyday.
