Anyone here have/had Concha Bullosa or enlarged turbinates? I have some questions.

So I recently had a sinus sinus scan which showed concha bullosa. I googled it but everything I read said how rare it was to have a concha bullosa on an inferior turbinate. Well, that's what I have! Anyone else?
So here are my questions. I hope someone can answer them?
1)Are most enlarged turbinates caused by concha bullosa, or is concha bullosa the name of a turbinate? This is confusing me?
2)For those who have/had this, what were your main symptoms?
3)My doctor advised surgery to correct this, and said they would get worse eventually. Has this been the case for any of you?
4)Can Flonase help concha Bullosa?

btw, not only do I have concha bullosa, but I also have a deviated septum, fracture to my nose and chronic maxillary sinusitis. In your opinion, do these things usually warrant surgery? I'm terrified of surgery, but am sick of feeling this way.
 
Most enlarged turbinates are caused by allergies, exposure to chemicals or other environmental irritants. Concha Bullosa is not the name of a turbinate, it is a small air cell within a turbinate (bullosa = bubble) that causes the turbinate to be enlarged (and it's a fairly common condition).



Typically congestion, facial pressure and nasal obstruction which can prevent your sinuses from draining properly.



It may not get worse, but it won't go away on its own. It's possible that an anti-inflammatory spray like Flonase will help keep the inflammation manageable so it's worth a try. You should also try saline irrigation using a neti pot or SinusRinse bottle, and an oral decongestant like pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) to see if those things help.



It's hard to say. A deviated septum often requires surgery to correct (but some people choose to live with one if it's not too bad). Many people can manage chronic maxillary sinus with medication and irrigation but at some point you may need surgery.

You might consider taking a month or two and treating it medically - Flonase, oral decongestants (do not use decongestant sprays like Afrin), antihistamines if you have allergies, and saline irrigation. If you don't see some improvement (or are already doing those things and they're not helping), you may need the surgery.
 
Just had surgery for CB and Turbinate reduction and sinus cleaned and flushed. The CB was blocking the opening from max sinus to the nose. Had lots of sinus pressure (Infection) and pressure on top of nose. Headaches as well. I could move the Concha Bullosa in my nose when breathing in or out. very frustrating. Get a good sinus specialist to do the work.
Day 2 nose still sore, stuffy but irrigating 3 times a day. Good Luck!
 
Wow this is why I came here today. I have had sinus trouble for a while now. Constant drainage in my throat, headaches,etc. I have been doing allergy shots for months now and they are not helping. The test showed I was allergic to almost everything. So my doc recommended we MOVE the middle turbinate to help it drain better. Is this what you had or did they actually remove it? I am scared to death to have it done. He doesn't put you completely asleep for this just a medicine to put you in lala land. I can watch any surgery on t.v. but the nose just freaks me out. How are you doing?
 
Try not and remove it. You may be breathing too much air for the rest of your life. They did a turbinate reduction of the bone ( Submucous resection of the inferior turbinates ) I would suggest you get put out for this as well. They shave bone but leave turbinate to still do the work it has to do. After searching for months this seems to get the best results from everything I have read. day 3 nose still sore. Using hydromorphine 2-3 times a day. Had an excellent surgeon. Do what you must to get one as well. drainage or post nasal drip 90% better since operation.
 
4 weeks later exactly. Have been back to doctor 5 -6 times for debridement. Still getting lots of crusts which do not want to come out on their own. Lots of different nose sensations. Frustrating. Doctor says nose healing well, and can take 6 - 12 weeks to heal fully. Most frustrating feeling the crusts in or on bridge of nose. Will not come out with blowing.
